• Master 2 Civilization & Literature: Methodology (2013-2014)

     

     

    1h30 min per week (Sundays at 1.10 pm)

    Programme (S.3):

    - The Process of Doing (Bibliographical) Research: Identifying a research topic, a research problem, identifying and locating potential sources, evaluating sources, borrowing material, using note cards.

    - Literary Theory (Traditional Literary Criticism; Formalism and New Criticism; Marxism and Cultural Materialism, Historicism, Structuralism, Feminism, Post-Colonial Theory, Gender Theory, ...)

    - The Historical Research Method (Introduction to the Philosophy of History; Doing Historical Research)

    Evaluation: 

    - continuous evaluation: readings, class discussion, and constructive participation (30 %)

    - 2 tests (30%)

    - final exam (40%)

     Important: for the final exam, students should study the following:

    1. Academic Writing

    2. The Nature of Literary Theory/ The practice of Literary Theory

    3. An Overview of Literary Theory: sections 1, 5, 6, 7, 8

    4. The Philosophy of History: What is the Philosophy of History? - Historical Causes - Historical Facts (p. 6)-Language in History (p.7) - What Method? – Ideologies – Anachronism - Truth in History - Philosophies of History (pp. 11-12)

    5. Lecture about the steps and tasks in the research process.
